Destroyer

Journal Entry: Wed Jun 18, 2008, 11:36 PM
I've recently taken my pen back up and resumed writing. Now I'm doing a fantasy piece I've been calling "Destroyer" It's the story of a powerful necromancer named Aspheros and a human girl named Perzephni. Circumstance forces them together and slowly they learn to understand each other and themselves.

My weekly Writer's Club likes it and now I'd like to hear some outside opinions. So here is a selection from the first part of the story:

The house of Perzephni’s father resembled the houses of every other noble Aspheros had seen: gilded and gaudy and desperate for attention. Even the greenery had been mutilated to look like some hopefully pleasing shape.

They passed through the guarded gate and into the grand foyer. All the while Perzephni remained nestled against Aspheros, unwilling to part from him.

A butler showed them to the drawing room where a stiff, cross-looking doll of a woman in too many layers of clothing and an equally officious man obviously in his “meant to impress company” suit soon joined them.

“I thank you, Sir, for returning my-” Perzephni’s father began to speak as soon as he entered the room but stopped short when he saw his daughter, still under the arm of a strange foreigner.

“It was my pleasure,” Aspheros said jovially, smiling as if nothing were out of place. “My name is Aspheros.” He dipped his head in a polite nod.

“I know who you are,” the doll-woman interrupted coldly. “You are the Maggial from Vultulla, the son of Icarus the Bone Piper.” Aspheros smiled at her words. She narrowed her imperious gaze at him as she continued. “I also know that you were one of those that fought alongside the heretics of Shiiram when they attacked our people on the eastern continent. You are the one they call ‘The Destroyer.’”

“I cannot change the meaning of my name any more than I can change my species.” Aspheros put on his most aloof and snobbish posture for the doll-woman, feeling much like a preening swan as he did so.

“The stories say you defeated an entire battalion of troops alone,” she added.

“I am only lucky it was not a battalion of cavalry,” Aspheros chirped cheerfully. “But the stories exaggerate. You see I had three of my familiars with me at the time.”

The doll-lady and officious-man were unnerved but did their best not to show it. The Destroyer’s legendary servants were as feared as their master. The bard’s tales claimed that Aspheros had snared them from the other planes of existence. Other’s said that he had crafted them himself from the flesh and bones of living creatures. Still others whispered they were the enslaved souls of his fallen enemies, now bound to serve him for eternity.

“The actual account of my contribution to the battle is rather short and hardly makes for a good tale. Indeed the whole fighting affair didn’t last long,” Aspheros turned to Perzephni and gave her shoulder a reassuring squeeze. “But none of us are here to talk of battles past. We came here because of this little waif.”

At the time, Aspheros did not notice the affection in his voice when he spoke of Perzephni.

“Yes. That’s correct,” Perzephni’s father agreed in haste. “I must apologize for any trouble my daughter has caused you.” He glared subtly at her.

Perzephni tensed in automatic fear and was glad for the reassuring warmth of Aspheros’s body. She leaned closer to him, taking comfort from the feeling of his ivory skin.

‘A battle-hardened soldier would not have skin so smooth and soft,’ she told herself.

Aspheros was aware of her fear. Subconsciously and with her body language she was begging for his protection. It only seemed right to hold her just a bit closer to comfort her.

“As I said, she has been no such trouble. As a gentleman, it seemed only natural to escort her safely home.” Aspheros was lying and, for the life of him, he couldn’t understand why. This runaway girl was delaying his departure from Sellacia and return home. What was he doing playing snob on her behalf?

“You must allow us to invite you to supper tonight, as a gesture of thanks,” the doll-woman added.

Aspheros considered. His ship wasn’t scheduled to leave until very late at night due to the tide. He could decline then simply wait aboard the vessel…and drive himself mad with possibility.

“That would be splendid,” he accepted.

Famous People on Campus

Journal Entry: Sat Apr 5, 2008, 7:39 PM
Nothing huge has really happened to me for a while...until yesterday (April 4)

I MET ROBERT PATTINSON!!

I'm not kidding.

The cast and crew of the upcoming movie "Twilight" based on the book by Stephanie Meyer, were at my college filming a scene.

As a member of the school's paper The Clackamas Print, I and two other members were allowed on the set where we met and interviewed Robert Pattinson. I even shook his hand!

For those who don't know who Pattinson is, he is best known for his role as Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

my sister :iconshinjitsushomei: is really mad at me, since I haven't read the books. She's addicted to the series and says to me "You don't count as a real fan until you read the books!"

she can grouse all she wants. I met him and she didn't. :D

Smothered in Strawberry Chocolate

Journal Entry: Thu Feb 14, 2008, 8:13 PM
Vantentine's Day is here again.

Much to my dismay.

How did I spend it?

made a fabulous and fancy dinner for myself and...my brother. T_T

Still, wonderful excuse to eat strawberry sundae ice cream covered in a hot fondue chocolate shell. The hot chocolate melts the ice cream as the cold ice cream hardens the shell

mmmmmmmmm

The Addiction of Death

Journal Entry: Thu Dec 20, 2007, 7:33 PM
So Dash tells me "Death Note is really cool! you should try it!"

Having read the first chapter when it was featured in Shonen Jump, I was open to the idea. It looked OK.

Big Mistake.

A few days later I find myself staying awake until the wee hours of the morning to finish reading Death Note.

Now that I read the manga I'm scouring the internet for the episodes.

Sigh...

and if all that wasn't bad enough, I had to create a new folder in my photobucket account for all the Death Note screencaps I was taking. ^_^
